Oh Plantar Fasciitis …

So I have been running for a long time and heard all the “former” runners speak of feet, knees, back, blah blah blah…until one fatal day, when I “felt” my heel. Hmmm, that’s strange-it’s like a bruise or something. Nothing de-habilitating but there and soon to be constant and evolving into a very strong burn when pressure went off the foot-like a brand of some sort-the Runner’s brand!
And sure enough-there it is! My first sports injury! I soon joined a silent society of runners who had their own systems of recovery, like getting rid of the hiccups all different and unusual; the Strassburg sock, the frozen water bottle, the ban on flipflops, and the anxiety of having a jumprope or BOSU as a training tool during the flareups. Replacing sleep with wearing a BOOT-ultimately my biggest success for getting rid of the pain and allowing me to walk out of bed in the morning without the walk of the TinMan. Plantar fasciitis affects millions of runners and active athletes in their careers. You have to listen only to hear the whisper of its beginnings…a bit of heel pain..a stiffness in the foot…burning shooting pain through the heel…and inevitably, if untreated-benched and frustrated without your cardio HIGH!
Lately, I have been speaking with clients about the PLANTAR, misdiagnosed SCIATICA, and the constant KNEE issues people suffer from. Beehive Fitness is committed to an injury-free experience, esp with all of the irresponsible fitness offered out there. We have amazing resources to take you through and avoid a permanent situation.
I designed Stretch Clinic with the sole purpose of treating our clients to the talents of the massage therapist, Denise Conlon and a time where they could devote an hour to stretching-which our busy lives just don’t prioritize for. A good dose of Pilates with Jennifer can prevent many back and neck issues from even becoming “issues.” Stronger core leads to a stronger foundation of fitness. We offer Pilates often so that our clients are always getting the Yin & Yang of fitness. We carry Trigger Point Performance products to enable clients to treat themselves to massage and trigger point therapy, releasing myofascial tissue and overstimulated muscles. We recommend the services of Dr William Vanderbrook who has helped our clients through back and neck tension. Dr Vanderbrook is located in the MedPlex building. We encourage our athletes, tennis players and golfers to go to Roni’s Clinical Sport Massage in Coral Springs, when tendons and ligaments are an issue. These talented products and experts are able to treat you so that you can continue to play. We have the knowledge and resources to be smart about our bodies and how we move through life.
As you become a more avid runner, cyclist or fitness aficionado, you open yourself up for injury. With that in mind, keep a thoughtful ear out to your body so you can catch anything before it becomes chronic! We are having too much fun to get sidelined!
Stay hungry!

It’s a word that can intimidate, inspire & drive people to achieve the unachievable just to be called one. Over the last year, I have seen huge strides made by the most unexpected people. I have also seen the people we expect to be our inspiration-continue to be. The Beehive is the playground for these people. We create different training methods to surprise them and different events to challenge them.

2012:End of the world or your growing waistline? Let’s put a stop to both. As the holidays approach, people get nervous about losing all of the progress made throughout the year. Halloween begins the test with Snickers and M&Ms at an arm’s length. If we are strong, we donate the candy to school or various charities or freeze the junkfood to eat at a later date. It’s a test that requires discipline, like all things where moderation and determination are key.

On December 31st last year, I made my new year’s commitment for 2011 of completing Miami Man, a 70.3 triathlon. For those of you unfamiliar with the distance, a 70.3 triathlon is a 1.2 mile swim, a 56 mile bike, and 13.1 running race.

There are no mystery pills or drops to lose that weight. When will we learn? If you do the work and earn your food, the weight will come off with certainty. It isn't a mystery or a secret that if you remove 3500 calories from your diet every week, you will lose 1 pound. 3500 calories = a pound.

What is my favorite workout? They are all amazing!
The HAMMER formerly known as 'LIFT,' is a great strength-training session, focusing only on strength through free weights, barbells, & kettlebells. Important for building bone density and as a result increasing metabolic reactions, aka "burning fat."
